No SSD On My Mac mini
Why is there no SSD on my 2012 new Mac mini?
There’re lots of people asked me why I didn’t buy a SSD and put it into my new 2012 2.3GHz quad-core Mac mini. I didn’t use to realize this’s a “question” when one or two people asked me. But now I think it’s time to rush a blog post to explain why.
I was going to buy OCZ VTX4-25SAT3-256G (It’s super fast and its reliability can be trusted. If you’re going to buy a SSD, trust me, go and check it out) and install it by Dual Hard Drive Kit. Because of Apple’s new Fusion Drive technology, I could make my Mac mini extremely fast!
After I handed on my Mac mini with 16GB memory upgraded for 1 week, I found the build-in 5400-rpm 1TB hard disk is enough for me.
I didn’t usually power off and on my Mac mini. I always kept my Mac mini on or let it sleep when I left my desk. Therefore I don’t need a fast boot and shut down. Since almost all my daily used app always are kept running, I don’t need a fast app open speed as well. (But I really think the notebook needs) So I decided not to upgrade to Fusion Drive for my Mac mini and keep the 1TB hard disk alone.
Someone must have asked me what about the stability of my Mac mini was, which was never powered off and run lots of never closed app. I’ve run my Mac mini under this kind of scenario for 2 weeks. Every thing worked well, no crash, no system slowing down. So far I has not found any shortcoming of my Mac mini.
